{"id":660,"date":"2018-05-24T08:16:13","date_gmt":"2018-05-24T08:16:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/en.philor.org\/?p=660"},"modified":"2018-05-24T08:16:13","modified_gmt":"2018-05-24T08:16:13","slug":"the-nature-of-god-personal-and-a-personal-concepts-of-the-divine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/en.iaphilor.org\/?p=660","title":{"rendered":"The Nature of God: Personal and a-personal concepts of the divine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"title\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"detail-content\">\n<div class=\"detail-item\"><span class=\"event-details-label\">When: <\/span><span class=\"event-when\">6 \u2013 8 Aug 2018<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"detail-item\"><span class=\"event-details-label\">Where: <\/span><span class=\"event-where\">Haus der Begegnung, Innsbruck, Austria (<a class=\"menu-link\" href=\"https:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?hl=en-GB&amp;q=Haus%20der%20Begegnung%2C%20Innsbruck%2C%20Austria\" target=\"_blank\"><u><span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">map<\/span><\/u><\/a>)<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"detail-item\"><span class=\"event-details-label\">Description<\/span><span class=\"event-description\">In recent decades, an increasing number of philosophers in the analytic tradition have begun to produce exciting philosophical work on topics relating directly to systematic theology.<\/p>\n<p>The Analytic Theology Project is a multinational three-year endeavour that contributes to this development in a creative way.\u00a0 The project funds systematic research promoting interdisciplina<wbr \/>ry cooperation between analytic philosophers and theologians.\u00a0 It thus explores the intersection of both fields and seeks to establish links between the traditions of classical European theology and analytic thinking.\u00a0 Against this background the project is organizing an international conference on \u201cThe Nature of God\u201d, and will be considering questions such as:<\/p>\n<p>What reasons are there for preferring a non-\/a-personal conception of God?<br \/>\nHow much conceptual room is there for seeing God as personal, without yet being a person?<br \/>\nWhich of the attributes traditionally predicated of God can be affirmed if God is understood as non-\/a-personal<wbr \/>?\u00a0 (e.g. Can a non-personal God create?, Can a non-personal God be free?, Can a non-personal God save?)<br \/>\nWhat implications are there (metaphysical, epistemic, moral, theological) for conceiving God as a person?<br \/>\nWhat affect does viewing God as a-personal have on religious practices?<\/p>\n<p>Coming to grips with these and similar questions is crucial for properly engaging with any theistic belief system and alternative, more naturalistic oriented interpretations of reality.
